Steel Grade Introduction and Applications
AISI 329 (also known as 1.4460, X3CrNiMoN27-5-2, SS 2324, PRODEC®) is a premium duplex stainless steel supplied by FUSHUN METAL. This high-performance austenitic-ferritic stainless steel is characterized by excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion, and corrosion fatigue. The steel combines high strength with excellent machinability and superior toughness properties, making it ideal for demanding marine and industrial applications.
FUSHUN METAL ensures consistent quality and reliable supply of this specialized AISI 329 duplex stainless steel, meeting stringent requirements for marine applications, chemical processing, and high-performance engineering components. The two-phase microstructure and low carbon content provide superior resistance to intergranular corrosion after sensitization, with corrosion resistance much better than fully austenitic stainless steels of T316 type.

Delivery Condition: AISI 329 is supplied by FUSHUN METAL in solution annealed condition for optimal corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.
Important Note: The steel is susceptible to embrittlement when applied in the temperature range of 300-900°C.
Service Temperature: Scaling temperature in air is approximately 1070°C.
Corrosion Resistance & Welding Properties
Corrosion Resistance
AISI 329 shows very good corrosion resistance particularly in chloride-bearing environments. Its resistance to chloride-caused attacks such as pitting, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion, and corrosion fatigue is much better than that of fully austenitic stainless steels of T316 type.
In most cases, AISI 329 is much better than T316 type with regard to general corrosion resistance in reducing and oxidizing acids. The two-phase microstructure and low carbon content render AISI 329 better resistance to intergranular corrosion after sensitization within the temperature interval 500-900°C.
Recommendation: When extremely high demands are imposed on resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, it is recommended that machining of the steel surface be followed by pickling or passivation.
Welding Properties
AISI 329 possesses good weldability and can be welded in the same manner as austenitic material. Welding should be carried out without preheating and with small weld beads, with as little heat supply as possible.
It is not necessary to use welding consumables of the same steel grade, as austenitic ones can also be used effectively.
Note: Welding of AISI 329 and subsequent application in highly corrosive environments could lead to a reduction in corrosion resistance. After annealing at 980°C and quenching in water, the corrosion resistance of the weld will be just as high as that of the base material.
